The TCF is a standard graded test designed by the CIEP (International Centre of Educational Studies) and awarded by the French Ministry of Education. It is officially recognised by all the University Language Institutes in France and abroad as well as by public authorities and the various French Language Institutes located abroad. It is intended for anyone who wishes his/her competency in French language to be assessed and certified easily, reliably and quickly for professional, personal or academic reasons.

The TCF Certificate is valid for two years.

 

The TCF is divided into three mandatory sections (an 80 item multiple-choice test):

• oral comprehension,
• grammatical structures,
• written comprehension,
• and two optional sections:
• oral expression,
• written expression.

 

The TEF (French Evaluation Test)
It enables non French-speakers to reliably assess their skills in French according to the levels set within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). The TEF consists of three compulsory tests (2h10) and two optional ones – one oral test (35 minutes) and a written test (1 hour).

During the summer season, Stralang Institute offers standard and intensive French language courses in packages of 2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks. Learning groups are downsized to encourage quality discussions and enable students to improve their oral skills.

Our programme adapted for Juniors is ideal for a full-immersion in the French culture and language. With our French Courses for Juniors, you will improve your language skills while discovering the French and the Alsatian cultures.

Objectives
Improve your oral communication skills in French according to the CEFRL criteria, learn to express yourself with ease and progress while having fun.

Discover Strasbourg, the Alsace region and its rich cultural heritage by practicing French in a variety of situations.

General French courses are held every day of the week, Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 12.00 pm and from 12.15 to 13.15 pm. The course objectives correspond to the folowing CEFRL level: A1, A2, B1 and B2.

During the summer season, Stralang Institute offers standard and intensive French language courses in packages of 2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks. Learning groups are reduced (9 students at the maximum) to enable our students to improve their oral skills and to encourage quality discussions.

There are two monthly summer programmes: standard courses (60 hours per month) and intensive courses (80 hours per month).

The hostel is in the centre of a 160 Ha large park and 200 meters away from the Europe Bridge, connecting France and Germany. It is two bus stations away from the Institute (10 min). There you can take advantage of our catering service (lunch/dinner/-/Alsatian meals), rooms for activities and meetings and the bar. There is a private equipped garden (ping pong table, basketball court, soccer, badminton,…) and a barbecue which you can use to spend nice evenings together.

University residence 
​The CROUS rents rooms in hall of residences as well as studio apartments. It has 3500 beds in hall of residences. Other types of accommodation are also accessible (possible price reduction with ALS or APL).
The student status issued by the Stralang institute gives students the opportunity to stay in a university residence by making a request to the CROUS (Centre Régional des Œuvres Universitaires et Scolaires de Strabourg). There are several housing options :

Rooms in residence halls
Non-renovated standard rooms
Renovated rooms with collective bathrooms
Renovated rooms with individual bathrooms
Studio apartments with individual bathrooms and kitchenettes
Admissions: if you are French, fill in the social student file. If you are a foreign student, you will need to prepare a dossier “Accommodation for an International student”.  For more information please check the following site www.crous-strasbourg.fr. Please note that both fellows of the French government (BGF) and Erasmus students have priority.

The studio apartments
The crous rents studio apartments between 200 and 260 square feet. They are more comfortable than simple rooms in university residences and they are equipped with a kitchenette and a bathroom. Their prices vary from one site to another. If you are above 20 years of age, you may be entitled to get APL, which will help you pay your rent. The admission procedure is identical to that of the rooms in student residences.

CROUS lodgings for couples 

The CROUS has 105 furnished apartments, with one, two or three rooms. They are spread out in Strasbourg, in districts such as Hautepierre, Cronenbourg, Schiltigheim and Esplanade.

Additional housing offers

The CROUS has created a free online service on its website. It allows landlords to post housing offers so students can benefit from them.

Objectives
Familiarise students with the terminology in the chosen field.

Master the methodology used for academic projects in France (writing reports, summaries, papers, essays, critical commentaries, etc.)

Improve the students' general knowledge in the chosen field.

Master the appropriate lexical field and cultural references related to the topic.

Duration
4 weeks x 10 hours per week.

General French (oral and written): 10 hours per week.

University and student life preparation: 5 hours per week.

Classes are held every morning from 9.00 to 12.00 pm and 12.20 to 13.20 pm, Monday to Friday.
There are 3-9 students per class.

Objectives
Enable students to discover the French educational system (organisation, administrative procedures, etc.)

Master the methodology applied to academic projects in France (writing an essay, a paper, a critical commentary, a summary, etc.)

Improve the students' general knowledge (French civilisation, economy, history, politics, etc.)

Duration
4 weeks x 20 hours per week.

The DELF is the only diploma of French as a foreign language which is to date, officially recognised by the French Ministry of Education. It has been accepted by more than 150 countries and is widely recognised by firms and public authorities.

The A1 and A2 level tests (basic user) correspond to a basic knowledge of the language and a good command of everyday life communication skills allowing people to “navigate” in French.

The B1 and B2 level tests (independent user) correspond to a good command of the French language and validate the student’s ability to cover a wider range of topics by communicating verbally and in writing .
 
The DALF is an official diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education. It is a French language proficiency certificate for non French-speakers.

There are 2 independent diplomas each corresponding to the last two levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). Students who passed the DALF (C1 or C2) are exempt from taking other language tests for entering French universities.
